Most of you know that I was recently given the gift of life❤️ My amazing mother in law Aggie Walsh gave me a part of herself on October 12th, 2016. I am so grateful for the gift and it has changed my life in so many ways. I am finally starting to feel like a normal person now. If you didn't know I actually ended up back in the hospital about a week later with a complication. I ended up having a second surgery on October 22nd. After that surgery things improved greatly. I am now back to a normal life. There are a few things that are different now but I would chose this life over dialysis any day! I am currently on many meds to help my body accept my new gift. My first purchase at the pharmacy was $2700. It was a bit much but the last 2 purchases after that have been less but still above $1000. I want to thank everyone that has donated because some of the money went to Aggie and Brian for their travel expenses for going to Madison to give me the gift. And the rest will go towards my meds to help me keep this gift. I am so grateful for everyone that has helped me through this journey. Life is good❤️
I m currently functioning at 11%. I'm still hanging in there. Just waiting patiently for the call from Madison or Milwaukee for the gift of life! I will have my 6 month evaluation with the hospitals in August. They will just asses where I am at and how things are going and if anything has changed. I am struggling with the thought of starting dialysis or to hold out a bit longer. I am sure it would help me feel better but I like to be a free person. So as of right now I am just taking one day at a time. I am just so thankful for the loving family and friends that I have to help me through these tough times. Especially my amazing husband. I am grateful that there are options for me. For now I just patiently wait and take care of myself the best I can.
I got the word today that I am finally listed on the kidney donor list at Freodtert in Milwaukee. I talked to my coordinator in Madison and I will be listed on their list next week. My recent labs came back and my creatinine, which is the main way to measure how my kidneys are doing, had gone up an entire point in one month. This is not the best news, but I am told that it can fluctuate a lot at this point. I am staying positive that I am still able to find a living donor by the time I need dialysis. I still have a couple people still in the process of being tested and handing in paperwork. I had a couple new people step forward also. I am staying hopeful! Thank you everyone for the support and kind words. Things are looking up!
I currently have 4 individuals being tested to see if they can donate. I am still waiting for them to finish the testing to see if they are a good match for me. I am also still waiting on insurance approval for some items that need to be done before they can list me on the deceased donor list. I am patiently waiting for the approval and for the testing to be completed. In the mean time, I am getting Procrit shots monthly to help with anemia or low red blood cell count. No dialysis yet! We are hoping to get a transplant before I need dialysis.
Again I want to say thank you to everyone for their love and support through all of this. It is amazing how many wonderful people I have in my life. I am very grateful.
I am currently working with Froedtert in Milwaukee and UW Madison to be put on their kidney transplant list. I am finishing the last few tests like a CT scan and an MRI. As soon as they review these results of the final two tests I will be listed.
I am very lucky to have a few wonderful hearted people that have chosen to be tested to see if they are able to donate a kidney to me. I am also able to use the money donated to HelpHOPELive for expenses that the donors incurred. Any help throughout this journey in my life would be appreciated. Thank you to all my friends and family! I could not do this without you!
