I started dialysis on January 11, 2017, and it's been a very rough journey for me. Since the catheter placement in December 2016, I've been experiencing pain on the opposite side during the initial drains. Because of my small frame, I wasn't able to handle the Rx that my doctor gave me, so it was lowered by 400ml. After my first few days of dialysis, though, I began sleeping all night. I had gone for many months not knowing what it was like to be asleep until my clock alarm went off! My energy level is slowly increasing and I'm beginning to feel a little better each day. I still may be facing another surgery in the near future to have my catheter repositioned, but for now I am managing things pretty well. One thing that I am most proud of is that I've lost about 15 pounds of fluid!! All of the fluid retention has been from the waist up, and it was especially bad in my face. I look better, which in turn has made me feel better. I still have a long way to go, though!

I recently had a follow-up with my doctor, and my kidney function is down to 7% function. I am so devastated, but I know I'll somehow find the strength to get through this.
On a happier note, my bake sale over the weekend was a huge success! Every item that was donated had sold before quitting time! We were truly blessed by the outpouring of love and support from many people, whether through sales, monetary, donations, or words of encouragement. Thank you to everyone who donated their valuable time and effort to help my cause!
