Family and friends of Mark Sendzik are raising money to pay for his uninsured medical expenses associated with Mark's Catastrophic Injury. Mark has been a quadriplegic for over 20 years. He spent the last year in the hospital due to a severe and life threatening pulmonary illness. Mark received a tracheotomy to assist in his breathing, and while in the hospital, he developed a severe Stage-4 pressure ulcer. As a result of his injury and hospital stay, Mark is facing very high out-of-pocket medical and living expenses, and he is asking for your financial support.
Mark is blessed with the love and support of his family, and his wife, Jan, who he met while they were helping homeless families become self-sufficient. After suffering a complete spinal cord injury, Mark worked hard to earn both a Master's degree and a Ph.D. Afterwards, Mark assisted Native Americans and low-income communities to help improve the air quality of their areas. Because of his illness, Mark had to retire years earlier than expected, but is looking forward to his recovery and leaving the hospital. Mark is working hard through therapies and rehab programs to help in the healing process and to regain his independence once again. Mark looks forward to finding ways to make a difference in the world during his retirement.
Thankfully, Mark has health insurance, but many of his medical and other expenses are not covered. He must pay a significant amount out-of-pocket for expenses such as hospital bills, home heath care, medical equipment, respite care, therapy fees, a generator to provide power for medical equipment during power outages, and even a modified van. Many of these expenses will be ongoing as Mark continues his recovery, and most are not covered through his limited health insurance.
