All, It has been a year since Robb’s hospitalization that started this journey to a new heart. When we began we had no idea it would be a year later and he is still on the list. We continue to be as patient as possible because the doctors (while optimistic) keep telling us that it could be awhile longer due to Robb's size and blood type.
We are so thankful that Robb is able to wait at home and we have only had a few hospitalizations. With heart failure it is normal for it to progress and result in hospital stays to tweak medication and treatment plans. Currently Robb has not needed an LVAD (Left Ventricle Assist Device), but that is an option if his condition worsens. Cleveland Clinic is a top heart hospital in the world and we couldn't be happier with the level of care Robb is receiving from his team of doctors.
Life for the family in Avon Lake has been good too. We have settled in nicely and really enjoy the community where we live. Ford just celebrated his 4th birthday and is looking forward to returning to preschool in the fall. The people here are so nice and understanding about our situation, everyone is always offering to help – we are so grateful! We have also been lucky to have family visits a number of times too.
We want to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone for his or her prayers, thoughts and donations. The outpouring of support has overwhelmed us and we are so grateful from the bottom of our hearts. In these uncertain times with Healthcare we are extremely thankful to have these funds to help ensure that Robb can get to the lifelong care he needs.
With love, Carah
PS – if you or someone you know isn’t an organ donor, please consider changing. There are many people out there that could be saved if just a few more of us gave the gift of life. One organ donor can save the lives of up to 8 people. Please check out https://www.donatelife.net for more information.

Happy New Year everyone!
We hope everyone had a safe, happy and love filled holiday season with friends and family! Robb's family joined us for Thanksgiving and did all the cooking! They also came for Christmas which was extra special for Ford. He is 3 years old and really getting into Santa - which makes it very enjoyable as a parent!
Robb continues to remain steady, which is really good news. He now has only a few appointments per month (reduced quite a bit from those first few months) and continues to patiently wait for a heart. Robb has a rare blood type: O- (which can only receive from O-, but is also the universal donor type) and as most of you know he is very tall - which means that finding a size and blood type match can take time while being prioritized on the UNOS list.
Cleveland has been a very nice play to settle in and we are happy with the Avon Lake community. Ford is doing well in preschool and the weather has not been as harsh as we imagined living so close to the lake.
Thank you so very much to everyone who has sent their prayers, love and support! We are truly grateful for such amazing family, friends and friends of friends!
We will continue to keep everyone updated as things progress and of course when the actual transplant happens!
Love, ~Carah (Robb's wife and friend)
