My name is Stephanie Anschutz and I have been battling MS since 1994. MS has taken over my body and life and I am determined to stop it in its tracks. Hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) is the first and only treatment to ever give hope to those of us with MS. It involves, harvesting the patient's own stem cells, and re-introducing them after their immune system has been wiped out with chemotherapy. The idea is to reboot the immune system to a new one that doesn't attack itself. HSCT is currently in a stage III clinical trial at Northwestern University. Trials have extremely difficult criteria and very small portion of the population is excepted into the trial. Then there is the issue of insurance coverage, cost is not covered (somewhere around $150,000), travel and accommodations etc. There are a handful of places worldwide performing a HSCT for MS, no longer as part of a trial. Russia, Germany, and Mexico are among the countries with good, clean, researched HSCT facilities. No surprise Mexico is the cheapest 58,500 for 28 stay in a two bedroom apartment for the patient and thete caregiver as well as the treatment at Clinica Ruiz in Puebla, Mexico. It is less overwhelming when you consider that MS disease modifying medications have awful side effects, don't stop the MS and cost about $10,000 a month. There are countless people walking that were once in wheelchairs and is just a small window into the success. And even if people weren't getting better (which they are), simply stopping the progression is worth every ounce of risk to most of us. This may be hard to understand for the people whose lives haven't been personally affected by MS. MS is completely unpredictable and it's terrifying. Every 30 days a new group of patients from around the globe travel to Puebla, Mexico for a 28 day stay and a chance at a life. I am scheduled for June 19, 2017. I'm excited. But to cover the cost of treatment, travel and related expenses I need to raise $70,000. I am a mom and a grandmother and I am married to the love of my life. I want to play with my grandson and participate in his life as he grows up. My family needs me back. I need my story to be told. Also, I need money. Please help if it all possible. Every little bit helps. Thanks for your love and support.
