When Phil was twenty years old, he suffered from severe smoke inhalation as the result of a fire in his home. Over time, his lungs were destroyed, and in 2001, Phil was the recipient of a double lung transplant. The anti-rejection drugs to save his new lungs destroyed his kidneys. Phil has been receiving dialysis for eighteen months and needs a kidney transplant. He is listed at two transplant centers on a waiting list and is also waiting for news on a potential live donor. Phil and his family are looking forward to the day that they are no longer tethered to the dialysis machine. They are hopeful that a donor will soon be found.
Transplants are lifesaving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Phil and his wife Karen are facing tremendously high expenses including a large deductible, airfare, lodging, and food for a live donor to be near the hospital after surgery, hospital co-pays and medication for both Phil and the donor.
To help with the financial burden of Phil’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Southeast Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant related expenses only. Phil and Karen want you to know how appreciative they are for your support and generosity.
Gratefully,
Angela, Rosemary, Sandy, and Vicki

Thank you all for signing the guest book and praying for Phil. We sure appreciate all the support in prayer and financially.
We are waiting patiently for a kidney for Phil. I know it’s all in God’s plan and timing. God Please hear me now and send a kidney. There has to be someone out there that has 0- or 0+ willing to see if they are a match. I hear they are doing surgery everyday transplanting kidneys. We just need one : ) Phil has been a trooper doing dialysis every night at home. I know it is difficult at times but he knows a kidney is coming soon.
Just an update on Phil. Each day we pray that Phil will receive a kidney, we would get that call. It’s been nearly three years, however our faith stays strong that one will come soon. Phil is 0 negative so it becomes more difficult for that perfect match but we know there is someone out there that has this blood type and will one day help Phil. Maybe it’s you? Please even if your not the right blood type make sure that you are a donor on your license. Many life’s are saved. Thank you for your contribution and God Bless.
It’s been 2 1/2 years that Phil has been on the waiting list. We pray that a kidney will soon become available and his long wait will be over. If you are considering to be a live donor please contact me and I can give you the information needed to be considered. There is no out of pocket cost to you as Phil’s insurance covers testing and the actual surgery. The money we are raising will be used for the donor’s travel, etc and their needs. Every little bit helps so if your able to donate or would consider being a donor I’d like to hear from you. Karen, Phil’s wife, 352-449-8842
Today we had an appointment at Tampa General just to do some updates for their records. They informed us that Phil has been on the transplant list for two years now and it probably will be another year unless a donor comes forward. We were also informed that Phil can take 0 negative or positive. So that was good news. We are praying that one comes sooner than later. Please God send one our way soon. We know you have planned it for Phi, we are praying that it is soon but in your time.
Just an update, Phil is still waiting for a kidney. I’d like to say patiently, however it’s been two years that he has been on dialysis and some days it is very difficult. Please pray that God will send someone soon so that he can live a normal life again. Thank you to everyone who has already donated as it will be very helpful to pay additional medical and donor travel and hotel if necessary. God is good and I know he has a plan for us.
We are sending a note to give everyone and update. Phil’s donor traveled many miles to Tampa General to complete three days of testing. On the last day they found a blockage in one of the kidneys. Please pray that this is not serious and that God will heal the kidney. Phil will not get the kidney, however we are sure God has plans and that another person will come forward for Phil. Please continue to pray for Phil and share his story. We want to thank each and everyone of you that have so graciously donated.
Exciting news! Phil has a live donor that has already started testing. Things are looking real good and the next step is the donor will go to Tampa General this month for four days of testing. If everything continues to go great Phil will have surgery in January. Please continue to pray for Phil and his donor. We thank everyone who has donated so far and know that we appreciate each and everyone of you. God is good!
Blessings, Karen
