Carol Bell is a 48-year-old woman who is very sick. After years of struggling with cancer and cardiomyopathy, a heart transplant is her only hope for survival! Carol is a very kind, giving person who needs our help. A transplant is lifesaving however the cost can be very overwhelming.
Carol grew up in Wichita, Kansas and graduated from East High School. She worked at various restaurants while pursuing a foster care license and childcare license. Carol accomplished both of her goals and went on to provide childcare for 8 years. She did not stop there. Carol also received certification in three areas: Home Health Aide (HHA), Nurse Assistant (CNA), and Medication Aide (CMA) in Nursing. Carol is married with 2 sons and 5 grand kids.
At just 14 years of age, a cantaloupe-size tumor was discovered behind Carol’s heart. She was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer. Radiation and chemotherapy treatments were used to help fight the disease. With deep faith and much prayer, her Lord and Savior brought her through. Many year later, at about 45 years old, she was told she had a leaky heart valve. Carol underwent open heart surgery to replace it. That led to the implant of a pacemaker, but shortly after, a second one was needed. Due to the failure of both devices, doctors determined that a heart transplant is vital!
In the beginning of January 2018, Carol will be admitted to Integris Hospital until a new heart is found for her. Doctors anticipate the wait to be about 4 months. Even with insurance, Carol has the continued expense of traveling 2 ½ hours to and from the transplant center for testing; hospital bills; copays and the astronomical cost of post-transplant anti-rejection medication she will need to take for the rest of her life. This is a challenge Carol cannot face alone. After years spent caring for her family and many others, she needs our help.
To help with the financial burden of uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in honor of Carol Bell with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are held by Help Hope Live in the Midwest/West Heart Transplant Fund in honor of Carol Bell. Donations are allocated by Help Hope Live based on financial need for medical expenses. Please consider making a contribution today.
We thank you in advance for your prayers and kind consideration.
Gratefully,
Carol’s family
