I have been battling end stage liver failure since 2009. I went to Duke Medical Center with the understanding that I would need a liver within 5 years, if not sooner. Up until a month ago, I was doing okay. I followed my doctor’s orders and was able to gain several years on to the estimated time. I thought I would be able to survive without one. I was doing so well that I thought that I had beaten the odds.
In October of 2009, I was working as a CVT in a Cardiac Cath Lab. One day, I felt like I was coming down with the flu, so I went to the ER. While there, they did a urinalysis and found blood in my urine. Thinking it was a kidney stone, they did a CT. That’s when I learned that I had Cirrhosis. I immediately sought the advice of a Liver Doctor and I went from there.
This disease took me from my career, and eventually cost me my marriage. Now, things have gotten much worse. My liver is starting to fail all together. The only thing that will save my life is a new liver. Since I am now disabled and drawing SSAD income, there is not much left to pay my expenses. I do have Medicare, but I also have a $6,700 out of pocket expense to pay. I also have to take anti-rejection drugs for the rest of my life. These drugs are extremely expensive, but necessary. After the surgery, I will have to relocate to Durham for 4-6 weeks. I have to be within one hour of Duke during that time for medication adjustments and in case my new liver starts to reject. Therefore, I will have to pay rent where I live now in addition to the rent I will have to pay at the location where I will stay for 4-6 weeks. These amounts add up quickly and I need your help.
Expenses are piling up. Donations to Help Hope Live can ease the financial burden of a transplant and allow me to focus on a healthy recovery. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and all funds raised will be used to offset medical expenses as part of the Help Hope Live South-Atlantic Transplant Fund.
Thank you so much for your support!
It’s July 15th and I’m in much worse shape than I was on my last update. Since then, on July 03 I had to be put on a standing order to have a Paracentesis every three weeks with a limit drawn of 6 liters every time. They may be drawing off 6 liters but there is that much or more still left inside me. That leaves me with no relief and I still have difficulties getting dress and tying my shoes. It’s hard to eat due to all the swelling. My INR level which determines the severity of my Liver Disease, and they usually do transplants when the level gets into the 20’s. My MELD score now is 22. I’m ready for all of this to be done and over with so I can begin to heal, so please pray I get that operation soon. All of these Paracentesis’ are adding to the cost so Donations are the only way I can afford it at this point, so please consider donating as well everything donated will greatly be appreciated. Donations can be filed on your taxes as a deduction. Thank you for listening and wish me luck.
Thank you and may God Bless you,
Michael Sutton
Looks like I’m down to days for my Transplant Surgery. I can’t wait to get rid of this diseased liver for a new one, so I can get well. Keep praying and donate where you can. I’m near the end but not quite there yet. I also will have a lifetime of drugs I will need to purchase and it will be that way until I can get back to work. God Bless everyone!!
I am so miserable right now heating on my New Liver. I am swelling so bad with Ascites and tomorrow will be my 3rd Paracentesis. They have drained approximately 8250 liters of fluid in 2 weeks. I expect that they will exceed that tomorrow, given the amount of weight I have put on since my last procedure. I can only hope that I receive the new Liver soon. That way I can get onto the road of recovery. Thanks for any donations and prayers. They both are appreciated. Also, word of mouth may help me get more donations to. Let everyone you know how to get on this site and donate to my transplant operation. Thank you
I am receiving belly taps for the ascites build up and right now it looks to be once per week at this point. It’s a stop gap procedure to bid me time until I get my liver transplant. So withcall the added costs of these procedures it’s costing me more money I have to pay. So if you can, I still need whatever financial help anyone can provide me. I was led to believe that I would have had my refund by now, but now I don’t know when I will get it. I understand now how people die waiting on a transplant. I just hope I’m able to hold out. If you can donate I appreciate it. If not sharing alone will help. So please help.
My club at Asheville Rifle and Pistol Club are working at setting up a raffle with a few cool prizes. I will list the items to be give away as soon as I get a list of them. We are trying to start selling Tickets on August 6th. At that time, I will know the items and what the plans are for ticket pricing. Tell all your friends that they should buy a few tickets, and if the want, donate items to be given away at the raffle. Stay tuned for further updates. Thanks to all that have donated items to be given away so far. If you need immediate answers to questions concerning the raffle, you can drop Denise Frey a note. She may have answers for you. Thanks.
I need some people in Asheville to think of a good fundraising event that we can hold. If anyone knows people who own places like Restaurants for plate dinners, a bowling alley or place like Putt putt they may want to do something, anything. A Raffle with Donated prizes that we can sell tickets for. I could myself offer a Gunsmithing service. I have a business partner that could do the work or making of firearms that we could raffle. I have been trying for weeks now, but I have not been able to get it lined up. You can get back to me here through my guestbook, or you can messenger me through my other fundraising site. I’ll be listed in a few weeks so I don’t have much more time to get something done.
Thank you everyone,
Michael
Thank you for the donations. I would like to hold a fundraising event incAsheville. If any of my friends or co- members knows of any business willing to do that, please let me know. You can leave a message on this site because I check messages here everyday. It can be anything. A raffle, a car wash, a plate dinner, a motorcycle run, or anything along those lines. I been trying to get one set up but have met with a wall of silence at this point. Sometimes, it takes someone who personally knows them to get them to do it. Thanks again for the donations and please let me know on the fundraiser ideas.
I just wanted to check in. I’m have been feeling really bad the last few days. I’m carrying a lot of extra fluid in my abdomen, and legs. I’m afraid that my sick liver is continuing to worsen each day. I only pray it holds out until I get my new liver. I have been working on trying to form a couple fundraising activities to help raise the money I need. I only hope that I get the approval to hold them at the places I’m thinking of doing it. In the meantime, if all the people out there that follows this website, could you find it in your heart to give to my Campaign? The SSAD I get once a month isn’t enough to pay my bills a save for a transplant surgery at the same time. I would appreciate any amount you can give to help me out. My role is reversed. I went through my life helping other people until I got sick so now I’m seeing the side of the people needing the help. I pray every day and night asking the Lord to help me get this all worked out. I know he is listening to me and is currently helping me by putting me in contact with HelpHopeLive. This is the best group I have talked to yet. I also ask that you sign my Guestbook and leave a note so I know that there are people out there seeing my Campaign Page. It will also act as a pick me up. Thank you and have a good night.
Thanks to those that have donated. You are a Godsend each and every one of you. Please keep getting the word out. Challenge your family and friends to follow suite. I had two procedures today that finalized my pre-transplant testing. Both were negative, thank God. Now the only thing I have to concern myself with is raising the funds to help pay charges that I will be responsible for. I usually don’t ask for financial help. I would rather be the person helping, but given my current situation,I have no choice but to do so. I am currently on SSAD I come that pays me once a month. After my rent and utilities, essential meds that I am currently on, plus a little left for food, I don’t have anything left to save towards this. I know it sounds like a sob story, but it is a given fact. I can’t save my life without your help. Believe it or not, you will feel real good about yourself if you do. I will try and give another update in a couple days. Thank you and God Bless
I’m hoping that my fundraiser will keep going well. I have two procedures due on Thursday the 5th of July. After that, I only have two more things to get done to be listed. I am approved for the transplant, but until everything gets done, I won’t be listed. One of those things is of course the money. I know they want to get paid, but it could take a while for me to get what I need to be listed, so I’m asking, to please give what you can and challenge your family and friends to do the same. I feel as though things are going down hill with my health, and I don’t know how long I have before my liver shuts down for good, so you see I’m in a bit of a hurry. HelpHopeLive is an awesome foundation and they offer donations to be Tax Deductible, so any donation you make will benefit you within the law. Feel comfort in knowing that you will be doing a good thing for someone, and I believe that good thing will come back to you in some form should you ever need it. Spread the word and donate. I’m trying to set up some fundraising activities in the Asheville area, so please check back for further details. Thank you.
I could really use the help of friends and strangers in my plight. My Liver is getting worse and Time is of the essence. So, if you could find it in your heart to give to my fundraising campaign. It will most definitely be appreciated. Since I am on SSAD, I don’t not have the extra money to save for my transplant. So, please give what you can. Any amount is welcomed. Thank you
I just want to thank everyone who has donated to my fundraiser. I’m finding it hard to find a way to form a fundraising activity where the public could get involved. If any of my friends knows of anyone willing to hold a fundraiser let me know. I thinking of things like a plate dinner, a car wash, a bowling night, motorcycle run or anything along those lines. You can contact me here on this site if you do. Thanks again for the donations.
