Matheus was admitted in the Mercy San Juan hospital on Saturday, February 10, 2018. It’s quite a long story, but in short, to see him alive is nothing short of God’s miracle. Doctors said that his heart is only 1% functional and in his many years of experience as a doctor, he has never seen anybody survive this condition. In fact, that was exactly what he told Bella and Janti (Matheus’ son and daughter) that Saturday morning. The doctor told Matheus’ children that their father was going to die.
Matheus and his family trust their doctor, but they also feel that they have an AMAZING GOD and absolutely nothing is impossible for HIM. 1% is all He needs to keep Matheus alive and perform His miracle.
Today Matheus is alive, interacting and joking with his friends and family who visit him, but his battle is very far from over. His heart is 99% damaged and he is living off a temporary machine that pumps blood for him. Doctors have said that typically people can live off this machine only for 10-14 days. So the only option for him is either to have a full heart transplant or to receive a permanent machine for his heart. The good thing is, he should be eligible for a transplant because he is still under 70 years of age and his blood type is B+ which is not difficult to match. The only place that can perform a heart transplant near Matheus is UCSF Hospital in San Francisco. Although Matheus has health insurance, there are many transplant related costs that are not covered by his insurance. Family and friends of Matheus Basuni are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation. Any donation made is greatly appreciated and will help ease the financial burden of his transplant and allow Matheus to focus on a healthy recovery alongside his family.
Thank you for your support!
