My family and I have been dealing with a disease that has affected my Father. He was diagnosed with Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in March 2020. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a disease that causes scarring (fibrosis) of the lungs. The word “idiopathic” means it has no known cause. Scarring causes stiffness in the lungs and makes it difficult to breathe.

Lung damage from IPF is irreversible and progressive, meaning it gets worse over time. The pulmonologists have given my father medication to slow the process of the Fibrosis, however, it has not slowed it enough and his lungs have deteriorated. He is now in need of a bilateral Lung Transplant.

My dad has been on oxygen for over a year now his lungs were deteriorating little by little, however, last weekend he felt worse than he ever has. On 6/21/21 he was brought to the Emergency room and was quickly admitted he is taking in 100% oxygen at 40L. The doctors informed him that his lungs are worse which they had warned us that this day would come. He was approved and placed on the lung transplant list on Wednesday 6/23/2021. Now we wait for new lungs. Any help is truly appreciated
