Family and friends of Laurie Dewar are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
From Laurie: “My PKD (polycystic kidney disease) journey has had its ups and downs since I was diagnosed over a decade ago. I was lucky enough to be prescribed Jynarque almost 5 years ago, the first medication that became available to slow the progression of PKD. My kidney function was already low when I started this medication, but it gave me a few more years before I had to start thinking about transplant or dialysis options. As my journey continues, I send much love and gratitude to all who are supporting me along the way. ”
Laurie has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.

Thank you for your support!
All we can say is WOW! There are not enough words of gratitude for all the support from friends and family that was shown at our Line Dance for Laurie event with Help, Hope, Live on Saturday, May 31st! Well over 50 people attended the event with their dancing shoes on and showed their support for Laurie and our family and we were overwhelmed with joy and appreciation. We raised over $1600 at the event and over $2500 in online donations which will go directly to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Laurie’s kidney transplant. Special thank you to all our volunteers and raffle prize donors (Burlington Presbyterian Church, Norma, John & Karen, LaCascia’s, and A Whole Bunch Flower Market).
In 2023, an anonymous living kidney donor was tested and was accepted as match for me, and in January 2024 I received his selfless gift of a new kidney. Words cannot fully express how grateful I am to this individual for his gift of life to me. I was able to receive the new kidney as a preemptive transplant, and because of this I was able to avoid dialysis. Things went very well, and although there have been some ups and downs, hospital stays and adjusting to medications, I know how lucky I am to have things go as well as they have been.I appreciate all the support from my family, friends, care team and beyond! As I've discovered, having a kidney transplant means many doctors appointments and follow ups, medication changes, and taking care of your overall wellbeing as best as you can. It can be overwhelming and almost like having a second job somedays, but it is all worth it.Thanks to everyone for being there for me while I continue to navigate this new life and all of its challenges.XO - LAURIE
