Unfortunately, Jim has now been waiting a liver transplant for 6 years...having never been the sickest patient on the transplant list...which has for him been good and bad news.
As many in the liver disease world now know, BIG PHARMA companies have come through with some remarkable new drugs for the treatment/cure of Hep C worldwide. In the US, Jim Bottomley has had the good fortune of being recipient of these new drug treatments on a research study basis. Unfortunately, these new drugs have failed to maintain a 'cure' for Jim thus far, despite advertised claims of a 99% cure rate. So, the research and study continues...and the wait continues.
Not too much can be done medically for Jim to make the waiting less painful and affecting, and less costly. During the waiting period, pre-transplant testing occurs annually, the prescription maintenance drugs continue daily (13 daily in all so far), and the cost of healthcare increases annually.
I know I am asking for too much; however, I feel hopeless to do less. If you should ever have us in your thoughts and minds, even though you have not seen or heard from us over these past years, donation to this fund is always something you can do to help.
Your compassion and thoughtfulness will forever be appreciated.
With love and thanks from the family of Jim Bottomley,

Sept 2015 Jim Bottomley has now been a patient of the Liver Clinic at UNC Chapel Hill for 6 years, 5 of those waiting on the transplant list along with thousands of others. This past yr Jim has had the golden opportunity to be a recipient of new Hepatitis C drug treatment, a liver disease patient's 'miracle' drug. Jim has always believed a treatment would come, and it did. The treatment is complex and expensive, as is all medical care these days, so we keep contributing to this fund to help with some of the costs.
We so appreciate all of our family and friends who have made contributions to HelpHOPELive on Jim's behalf, and for all the prayers, help and good wishes for us along the way. Thank you.
