“You’ve only got three choices in life. Give up, give in, or give it all you’ve got”
Jane Burke desperately needs your help. As many of you may know, Jane was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) in October of 2014. The quote above embodies the journey she has been on since then. Though she has endured four rounds of chemo thus far, she is still in high spirits and fights like it is day one. Her doctors have told her that the only hope for a return to good health and a normal life is a bone marrow transplant or the leukemia will return.
Jane’s doctors are currently on the search for a bone marrow transplant donor within the national registry. With the support of family, friends, and God, Jane’s strength and faith has remained- “I don’t know where I’d be in this process without God. I don’t know how I’d feel or how I’d cope. It wouldn’t be possible without Him.”
Transplantation will be lifesaving for Jane but the costs are more than she can handle on her own. While Jane does have insurance coverage, there will be a few months between the end of her short-term disability and the beginning of long-term disability that will leave her without income during that time. Yet, insurance bills will continue to mount. To sustain her for the rest of her life, Jane will be required to take costly anti-rejection medication. They are projected to cost thousands of dollars outside of what insurance covers. Other transplant-related expenses include co-pays, medical testing and doctor visits. All totaled, these costs are expected to be around $20,000. The need for donations is crucial. Jane has always been there to help others. This is the time to help her.
To assist with the financial burden of Jane’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Bone Marrow Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
