Port placement done successfully yesterday, chemo going well. Adding a little transfusion illusion to boost the hemoglobin. Finally resting in a quiet room and settled in.
Braden's shirt yesterday brought lots of joy. He felt compelled to wear this particular shirt - he didn't know why. At his appointment pre-surgery, the doctor asked him what the shirt "said"- Dr P was once an engineering student and couldn't remember. It took Braden a few minutes to recall, but then explained "2 b or not 2 b" and Dr P couldn't believe it.
Just before coming into the room, he had talked to his nurse about Braden and they were discussing which cycle and round he was being admitted for and this 4th trip is Cycle 2, round 2, -it's called "2B" so he had just told the nurse a way to remember was "2B or not 2B" and then came in to Braden wearing this shirt. Dr P ran and out and got the nurse to bring her in to see the clever equation and coincidence.

Today marks the first anniversary of the amazing gift of life Braden received one year ago-Sunday, March 20th, 2016. We are so grateful to the donor and donor family for giving Braden the chance to breathe again and begin a whole new life. Braden received "the call" on a Saturday evening, and his journey into the operating room began about 1:00 PM the next day. Late in the evening, about 10 PM the surgeon came out and told us everything had gone well.
As you know, the first six months or so post-transplant were challenging, and we knew the first year after transplant could be rough. Braden persevered and returned to work in September! And then 10 months in, January of this year, brought new challenges and a different journey.
So as we celebrate the many blessings (and there are so many!), prayers, and love of family and friends, Braden returns to Cleveland very early tomorrow for a procedure to put a port in, and the next round of chemotherapy. He continues to be in good spirits and is determined to be successful and make the very best of his precious gift!
