After two very long days waiting, Joe successfully underwent surgery to receive a new liver late Saturday, December 26th. He is doing well and recovering in the intensive care unit. It was Christmas with a full moon with all that goes with that in the hospital, and a donor liver that was coming from another hospital that was backed up because of unexpected trauma. So even though we arrived on Christmas morning in Miami to receive the offered liver, it wasn't transplanted until the following night. We are grateful to the donor and their family for making this a Christmas miracle and a second chance at life for Joe.

That call we thought might never come came at 1:30 am this morning, a couple of hours after we'd returned from Christmas Eve dinner. We got to Miami three hours later, and Joe is resting while they find out if the offered donor liver is a good liver and a viable match.
It's all Joe wanted for Christmas, and he even dreamed it would happen on Christmas Day. He was right. If this works it will be the best Christmas present ever. We need everyone's thoughts and prayers turned to that at this time, and prayers for the donor and his/her family. Merry Christmas, everyone.
