Vickie Davis is a 55-year-old woman who suffers from End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). She is currently undergoing dialysis three times a week and has been told that her only chance at a healthy life will be a kidney transplant – something that will likely take place in the next two/three years.
Vickie grew up in Staunton, VA, which was settled in 1732 by John Lewis and is known as the birthplace of Woodrow Wilson, the American Shakespeare Center, and the country music group, The Statler Brothers. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1979, and has been employed by Rahe, Inc. since 1980 — currently assistant manager at one of their local restaurants. Vickie is active in her church, Cherryvale United Methodist, attending Sunday school and church, along with assisting with their fellowship meals as her work schedule allows.
Her kidney transplant will be a life-saving, and if all goes well, Vickie will no longer need dialysis. But even with insurance she will have many uncovered transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel to and from the University of Virginia Medical Center and the costly anti-rejection medications that she will need to take for the rest of her life.
To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Vickie’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Atlantic Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hopes Live for transplant-related expenses only. If you would like to make a contribution, select the “Donate Now” button or see the check writing instructions on the right side of this page.
CELEBRATE! My sister, Vickie got her kidney on October 19th. She got the call that morning and by the end of the day she had her new kidney and it was working better than the doctors thought it could.
Thank you to everyone who has kept my sister in their prayers and who have helped her to reach the monetary goal needed to get this new kidney.
We know we still need to continue fundraising as the expenses of the new kidney and the medicines can be extreme! But for now we are just goingto CELEBRATE this new chapter in her life.
God bless you all!
Alison , sister of Vickie
I am currently working on a new fundraiser for my sister. The event will be held January 20, 2018! Watch for updates!
We have made some progress on the silent auction. Items and baskets are coming in. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way. My love to all of you. Thanks again, Vickie.
We are trying to get together items for a silent auction to be held in the spring of 2017.
It has been a year since we have started fundraising. We are getting closer to my goal. Thank you everyone for your support.
Almost there
Trying to organize a couple of more fundraisers. A local business is going to do a fundraiser for me. A percentage of receipts for a few hours will be donated to my fund. We have a date set up for another soup and sandwich luncheon at church. It will be on November 13th after church. It should start around 11:30 AM.
We are trying to organize a bake sale. We need help with baked goods. So far there are four people who are willing to help bake goods. We will need some more help please. I do not have a date set up for this as of yet. We are also trying to set up some other fundraisers. If you have any ideas please let us know. My love to you all.
Thank you,Vickie.
March 19th my Sunday School class held a Spaghetti dinner and baked goods auction. A portion of the money raised was given to me to help me reach my goal. Thank you so much to my Sunday School class at Cherryvale UMC.
Soup & Sandwich luncheon as success! I have a wonderful church family. Thank you for your support.
Getting ready for my Sunday school fundraiser tomorrow. This will be my 1st fundraiser, and I knew it had to be with my church family, the best way to start off such a life saving campaign.
Vicki I hope you make your goal... I miss working with you...praying for you❤️
