ON GIVINGTUESDAY ON NOV. 30, FUEL THE GIFT OF LIFE WITH A PIZZA FUNDRAISER
Dine In or Take Out for a Cause at Barros Pizza in Glendale
GLENDALE, Ariz.—On the global giving day GivingTuesday on Tuesday, November 30, you can help sustain the gift of new life as you support an exceptional local cause. Dine in or take out at Barros Pizza (16750 N 51st Ave #1, Glendale) between 10:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. and mention Christopher Garman and a portion of your proceeds will be donated to Help Hope Live to help with the out-of-pocket costs related to Christopher’s life-changing kidney transplant.
31-year-old Christopher was born in Glendale—today, he lives in Oklahoma City with his wife, Amanda, and his five-year-old daughter, Zoey. He is a nine-year veteran of the U.S. Navy who enrolled right out of high school. His life changed dramatically when he was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease in March 2019. Christopher required immediate surgeries and dialysis, and he joined the waiting list for a kidney transplant.
In July 2021, Christopher and his family celebrated the incredible gift of new life and a healthier future when he received “the call” and a new kidney.
While the kidney transplant will significantly change his life and give him a chance to be present for his family, it comes with an overwhelming price tag. Outstanding transplant-related costs that are critical to Christopher’s future but not covered by Medicare or his VA benefits include frequent return visits to the transplant center and at least $120 per month in supplemental vitamins and medical equipment.
Christopher and his family turned to the national nonprofit Help Hope Live to start a medical fundraising campaign for these and other transplant expenses. To contribute, participate in the fundraiser at Barros Pizza on Nov. 30 (see the flyer by clicking here) or make a donation at any time at: https://helphopelive.org/campaign/19006/
His family is grateful for the community’s support, which will enable Christopher to focus on his recovery and future. “There were many moments that we have had to overcome,” explained Christopher’s mother, Crystal, “but this young man has always put his family first. Chris just keeps picking himself up and moving forward. As we chip away at helping to lift the financial burdens, Chris is keeping his eyes forward to see what his future holds.”
Since 2012, GivingTuesday has provided an opportunity for people around the world to offset the heavy spending of Black Friday and Cyber Monday with charitable contributions and support. On November 30, Help Hope Live will cover the credit card fee for all online donations in Christopher’s honor.
Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and all funds raised will be managed by the nonprofit to cover verified medical and related expenses. Help Hope Live verifies medical and financial need for every patient.
Help Hope Live is a national nonprofit that specializes in engaging communities in secure, tax-deductible fundraising campaigns for people who need a transplant or are affected by a catastrophic injury or illness. Since 1983, campaigns organized by Help Hope Live have raised over $158 million to pay patient expenses. ###Written by Emily Progin
