My husband, Fabien Avila, is only 55 years old. He is a loving husband, father and grandfather. Fabien was diagnosed with kidney failure about ten years ago and it has been his dialysis treatments that have kept him alive for nine and a half of those years.
When Fabien was diagnosed, he couldn’t imagine a life lived on a machine. Then a miracle happened that turned that around. We were blessed with a newborn baby! Over these many years, it has been his two children, eight adoring grandchildren and our nine-year-old whom we adopted when he was three who inspire him to face each day with a determination to live.
Fabien’s doctors at Oklahoma University determined he now needs a kidney transplant to survive. Unfortunately, even with insurance, medical expenses have begun to accumulate and will continue long after Fabien receives his transplant. Those out-of-pocket costs include the medications he is currently taking and the enormously expensive post-transplant anti-rejection medications he will need to take for the rest of his life and many expenses unknown to us yet. Fabien and his family cannot face this financial challenge alone and are turning to you to ask for your help.
