Kayson Matney is a four year old and was born with a medical condition known as Alagilles Syndrome. This condition is an inherited disorder that causes liver disease in young children, and a progressive loss of bile ducts over the first year of life. This leads to a buildup of bile in the liver, causing damage to liver cells, and leads to cirrhosis in about half of affected children. Unfortunately, Kayson is now in liver failure and facing end-stage-liver-disease. He will need a lifesaving liver transplant in order to survive, and he desperately needs your support. Kayson is now undergoing medical testing to be placed on the active liver transplant list at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. While he waits, medical bills, co-pays, deductibles and living expenses continue to rise and both Kayson and his family are drowning in out-of-pocket medical and transplant-related expenses.
Over the course of his short life, Kayson has been in and out of the hospital on many occasions. He has had lengthy hospital stays, sometimes up to months at a time. Twice monthly he is regularly admitted to Oklahoma Children’s Hospital for medical testing and treatments, and he will no doubt have a very long journey and recovery ahead of him. Kayson’s team of physicians have told him that his only option is a lifesaving liver transplant. Sadly, Alagilles Syndrome has caused damage to his left kidney and Kayson now only has 20% kidney functioning. Unfortunately, Kayson may also soon need a kidney transplant in addition to a new liver and he desperately needs your help. Kayson and his family will be faced with costly post-transplant medications to halt rejection that are needed for the rest of his life. They will face living expenses, temporary relocation to be closer to the transplant center, caregiver fees, nutritional supplements, post-transplant testing, medical bills and more. Kayson is required to raise $5000 to be placed on the transplant list, and more than ever needs your financial support to help him undergo a transplant.
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Kayson’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Central Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
