My name is Connie Hamilton.

I’m a 49-year-old woman. I’m a mother and wife of 25 years. After meeting my husband, we had our daughter a year later. Now we are blessed with four grandchildren. Before I got sick, I was working as a store manager while attending pharmacy school. In short, I had a lot on my plate!

Six years ago, my life changed forever! I had been ill on and off for several weeks. I was told by my doctor that I had the flu, but my symptoms were so severe that I went to the hospital. The ER physician agreed with that diagnosis and I was discharged. Within 24 hours, I returned to the emergency room. Only this time, I woke up 14 days later with tubes coming out of my neck, chest, and leg. I was so swollen that I couldn’t even recognize myself. I didn’t realize what happened to me. I was then informed that I had one of the rarest forms of pneumonia. I have no idea how I was infected, but since that time my lungs haven’t recovered. Now my only option is a lung transplant.
