Help HOPE Live for Nelda Garcia
Nelda was diagnosed with kidney disease at the age of 14. At the age of 21 her kidneys were only working at 5% of their capacity and she had to begin dialysis. After three years in dialysis, she received her first kidney transplant. Twelve years later her husband was able to donate a kidney to her. Twelve more years have gone by and she is in need of yet a 3rd kidney transplant. Nelda needs your help for this wonderful miracle to take place. The cost of uninsured transplant expenses can be staggering for things such as: co-payments for the multiple doctors’ appointments, immunosuppressant medication, relocation expenses, medical supplies, loss of wages, and bills for the home. To help with some of these uninsured expenses a fundraising campaign in Nelda’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All contributions are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Yesterday I had a phone appointment with the social worker. Since my husband is going to be my caregiver after the surgery, we were asked to save money for the time he will be out of work.

It’s that time in my life again! I am in need of my 3rd kidney transplant. I am in the process of being put on the transplant list. It is time to start campaigning to find a living donor if possible and for financial help.
