On September 16th, Evan was in a boating accident and broke his c5-c6 vertabraes in his neck which has left him paralyzed from the chest down, categorizing him as a quadriplegic.
He underwent immediate spinal surgery at Broward General and remained in their ICU for the next 65 days dealing with multiple heart and lung complications from the accident. Last Tuesday he was airlifted to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta to start the rehab process. Unfortunately, he has had some more setbacks due to his lungs and remains in the ICU up there after undergoing 2 more emergency surgeries this past week. He is an unbelievably inspiring fighter with the most amazing family and friends who have been there with him throughout this whole process, and we know that he will continue to amaze us with his bravery and strength everyday.
If you have ever met Evan, you know that he is truly the most selfless and generous guy who does anything he can to help his friends. He is constantly giving his time and going out of his way to help others and put them before his own needs. Athough he would never ask for it, he and his family now need our help.
The average expenses for Evan’s type of injury are $769,351 for the first year and $113,423 each subsequent year. Many of the costs unfortunately are not covered by insurance.

05/07/2018:
Evan has recently started to come off the ventilator!
Update 11/21: Evan has been transported to The Shepherd Center in Atlanta to begin his rehabilitation. He is still on the ventilator, but will hopefully be weaned off of it soon by the doctors at The Shepherd Center. He is starting the next phase of this long process. Please keep praying for Evan. Than you everyone for all of your support!
Evan was a patient on my unit and he recently came to mind after I encountered an amazing gym specifically for those who have suffered spinal cord injuries. Unfortunately they are much more prevalent than any would imagine. I wanted to reach out since I remember Evan had pictures in his hospital room of his crossfit days. I figured this is just another resource I could provide you with locally to help Evan with rehabilitation. By no means am I affiliated with this gym Id just like to share their info and encourage you to checkout their environment and the work they do. I could definitely see Evan pushing himself beyond any limits. The videos and rehab they post on their page is motivating and so inspiring. If you could kindly share their info with him to check out for himself that would be awesome! Neurofit360 located in Pembroke Pines
