My sister Kelly and I are asking for your help, not for ourselves, but for our mother Nancy Danielle Hannon. Our mother needs a kidney transplant because she has Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a hereditary disease without a cure. Due to her kidney function being at 6%, she spends 10 hours of her day on dialysis and has been for over three and a half years. She needs a kidney transplant now.
She is not the kind of person who will ask for help or show any sign of weakness. That is why we are speaking out on her behalf. With such limited kidney function, our mother can’t work outside the home anymore, yet she still drives herself 200 miles round trip to Idaho Falls, ID to meet with kidney doctors every week or two. Not only that, she continues to keep up the house and yard, cooks for our dad and gets together with her family and friends when she’s able.
Our mother faces an additional challenge. Due to the effects of PKD both of her kidneys have each grown to the size of footballs. When a kidney donor becomes available she will first have surgery to remove both kidneys, then three to four days later she will go through the actual transplant surgery. Because of this, she is unable to be placed on the UNOS Kidney Transplant Waitlist.
Transplant surgery and other associated costs can total upwards of $400,000. She will be required to take anti-rejection drugs, costing $2-3,000 a month, for the rest of her life. Not all of this will be covered by insurance. Other additional costs include transportation to and from the University of Utah Transplant Center in Salt Lake City and housing near the hospital for at least one month with required caretakers. Additionally, continued care-giving for several more months when she returns home to Driggs, ID is necessary.
Please donate to our mother’s cause so that she can get back to the life that she once enjoyed so much. Donating through the non-profit Help Hope Live allows your donation to be tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Words can’t describe how much your kindness will forever be appreciated by our family.
Thank you,
Mary and Kelly Hannon. (And, our dad Tim, too!)

The kidney transplant happened on the 29th of October!! It is now 10 days post-op and we are all recovering well in Salt Lake City. There have been many roller coaster moments which were physical and emotional yet Kelly and I are doing better than expected. For all of you that would like to keep up with the transplant process, please check out the website: posthope.org/hannon-transplant. This site is for updating all of you amazing folks who are a part of this amazing journey and again, thank you from all of us.
We're excited to announce that we have a kidney! My daughter, Kelly, is the fourth potential donor to go through the rigorous testing and was approved as my live donor. The surgery date is this fall, October 29th at University of Utah's Transplant Center. We will be in Salt Lake City for about a month recovering with the amazing help from our multiple caregivers. I, Danielle, am so thankful for the support and love shown by our friends, family, and community. We will keep everyone updated and are looking forward to a new healthy chapter.
