My name is Torrey Green, and I am an artistic motivator in south Florida. My life’s work is to share my love, passion and talent for visual art and creativity with tweens. I have been teaching since the year 2000, and I love it!
On June 12th, 2014, an angel, an incredible Good Samaritan named Sara Toffoli donated one of her kidneys to me so I could stay alive. This was after seven years of being on dialysis for three times a week. Sara didn’t know me, but because of her selfless gift and amazing sacrifice, I am still alive and physically and mentally in much better health than I have experienced in years!
Transplanted kidneys however require anti-rejection medications to keep them functioning in a new body. I take five of these drugs and the cost of their copay is 100 dollars each. That is 500 dollars a month! I need these drugs for the rest of my life to maintain my new kidney.
Because I am a teacher, I don’t make enough money to pay for these incredibly expensive medications. Therefore I am asking the universe and the goodness of humanity for the help I need.

Dear Mister Green,
My family and I would like to wish you the best for your recovery. You are my favorite teacher (Don't tell anyone). You are a phenomenal teacher and have educated me in many ways in my art class. You are the only teacher who will let us interact with the outside environment and give us freedoms. I have done art almost every year of my life, except sixth grade, and in half a year I have learned more than I have learned in all the schools I have gone to. Before your class, I was never allowed to sketch with anything other than a pencil but you provide us with all the utensils we would like such as paint, markers, oil pastels, et cetera. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Mr. Green,
I had you for a teacher back in '07 and '08 and I remember seeing you come into work with a smile even with your cane or lookin like you really needed some sleep. My prayers go out towards you to reach your goal and find a donor. Like I said back in the day, I would happily donate a kidney to you. Sadly, we aren't the same blood type. :( still thinking about you Mr. Green.
Rebecca Harsch
Stay strong Mr. Green. We are so thankful for the artistic support and constant encouragement you gave Danielle in middle school. We give some encouragement and support back to you now... prayers and good thoughts to you always.

Hi Mr. Green,
I don't know if you will remember me but, I was in your third period class in 2008, my name is Rebecca Harsch. You might remember me by remembering Monica Torres or Mario Nanni? Even if not, I still Google your name every few months to check up and see how you are doing. It makes me extremely sad to hear the exact details of your illness- as students, we only ever got the light version. I remember I always used to tell you I would donate a kidney to you and, if we were the same blood type and a good match, I wouldn't give it a second thought even now. Sadly, we aren't but I just wanted to let you know that I really hope you find a transplant and the money situation works out! I know I always used to look forward to your class. I remember building guitars and my paper mache, pink, hippo! I don't live in Florida anymore but, I'll be visiting soon. I'm hoping to come by DEHTMS to visit my old teachers.
I hope you aren't feeling too down when you read this, and if you do, I hope it cheers you up.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Harsch

You are an amazing person. You are teaching our children at Don Estridge much more than art(as if that isn't enough), you're teaching them about character, values, morals and so much more. I will help in anyway I can and wish you a very long, happy life!

Torrey is a an incredible young man who makes art come alive for hundreds of students each year at Don Estridge. He engages students in relevant art installations at the school and helps them develop talents that will serve them and society. I send him and the physicians and nurses working with him my admiration and prayers to conquer this illness.
