After being airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital it was determined she suffered a C2 fracture, resulting in paralysis from the neck down and the inability to breathe on her own. Surgery is imminent to repair the fracture but her spinal cord has been permanently damaged. The doctors have said there is still hope but she will need rehabilitation. The rehabilitation, home renovations, specialized medical equipment and home care will be a considerable financial burden. The road to recovery will take years.
In Dana’s 28 years of life, she has been through more than most can comprehend. As many of you reading this already know, she lost her father when she was 16 and her mother when she was 21 years old. Despite this, she has always held her head high and has amazed her friends and family with her strength and selflessness.
With every trial she has faced, she has always come out stronger. Dana will physically fight this, however she needs whatever help you can give to assist with her medical expenses which are rapidly accumulating.
“God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers”
Please help Dana fight this battle.

Hi everyone!
Sorry for not updating sooner!
In addition to the volleyball tournament this Sunday, September 8th, there will also be a fundraiser for our girl, Dana, the following day, Monday, September 9, 2019 at Starr Boggs Restaurant in Westhampton from 4:30-7:30! ALL proceeds raised at Starr Boggs will go directly to Dana!
Dana continues to work hard in rehab! She recently had a procedure done which allows for diaphragm pacing. With diaphragm pacing, Dana is able to come off of the ventilator while a pacer works her diaphragm in order to breathe. Doctors thought her diaphragm would only be able to handle a very short amount of time on the pacer to begin with, but Dana is once again exceeding expectations; she used it for 6 consecutive hours on Saturday! She said she wants to go longer each day so she can go for walks in Central Park and get fresh air. That's our girl!
Dana is also learning to use an electric wheelchair that she controls with movement from her chin.
The cards with thoughtful and positive words keep Dana going each day. She absolutely LOVES them! She has us hang each and every one on her wall so she can see and read them over and over again.
Please send all cards to:

Thank you everyone for your continued support and generosity!
Update time with GREAT news on our girl, Dana!
Dana's rehab at Mount Sinai has begun and she's had a few very successful days! She now has her voice back and she passed her swallow test! She can now eat and drink for the first time in one month. Her first requests were a blue Gatorade and a chicken parmesan panini. She then ordered a multi course meal for dinner! That's our girl.
The next huge step is to work on getting her off the ventilator and breathing on her own.

Hello everyone! The continuing support for Dana is indescribable. She is loved beyond measure. This love and support will help her during the most difficult times on her road to recovery. Please stay tuned for fundraiser times and dates that are in the works for our girl!
On Thursday, July 25th Dana was transported to Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Center in NYC. Here, she will work her mind and body as she begins to accept how her life has changed.
Dana is scared, nervous, and anxious but also excited to start therapy. She will receive therapy for about 3 hours per day Monday-Friday. At this time, she is experiencing a lot of nerve pain (very common with a spinal cord injury) and anxiety. She is still on a ventilator but nurses have already spoken with her about trying a smaller trach in the hopes to wean her off. They will also discuss the possibility of trying water and soft foods on Monday! Dana still has no feeling from the base of her neck down. Hopefully her voice will come back soon!
Once Dana is settled and in a routine, we hope she will want some visitors. For now, she LOVES cards, letters and pictures! She truly enjoys reading and listening to everyone's words of love and encouragement! We worry mail and packages will be lost in the shuffle at Mount Sinai so please send mail to the following address and we will make sure her mail is brought to her daily.
