Gary received a recent diagnosis of liver disease, December 2020, and needs a transplant to survive. We are asking all to join us in fundraising for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to help with critical expenses Gary will face immediately after surgery, including the cost of lodging near the transplant center where Gary is required to stay for an extended period of time after the surgery (three weeks to three months).
Gary has lived a positive and productive life. He was a police officer in Pennsylvania for 30+ years. During that time, he and his wife raised 2 children, helped care for elderly family members and had a positive influence in many people’s lives. Gary and his wife retired to Myrtle Beach, SC in February 2012. He has been working as a Security Guard since that time, but can no longer work as a result of total exhaustion and other symptoms related to liver disease.
As a result of his liver disease, Gary has been unable to assist his family financially and unable to assist with caring for his grandchildren as he was prior to becoming ill. Receiving a liver transplant will give him his life back and allow him to return to being able to care for his family and 89 year old mother in the way he has always done.
Even with health insurance, which will cover part of the transplant cost, Gary will face significant expenses related to the surgery and aftercare related to the surgery. Included in the extra expenses will be anti-rejection medications and follow-up medical care for life. Post transplant medications are expensive, as much as $3000 per month, and will be as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Donations will be greatly helpful and appreciated in allowing Gary to obtain the best quality of care and ultimately extending his life. For that, he offers his sincerest thanks.
Gary has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and is tax deductible for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses.

Hello Mr. Thompson,
I don't know you, but I worked with Michelle for many years at Berkshire Psych. I always respected her greatly and came to enjoy our many conversations over the years. I know relocating to be near you and your family was extremely important to her. When I heard of your medical concerns, it saddened me greatly. I wish you nothing but the best on your journey. Just wanted to help a bit.
