Roberta spent her career as a critical care and hospice nurse. She poured herself into caring, not only for her patients, but for their families as well.
Today, Roberta finds herself the patient. Undiagnosed spinal stenosis and a fall at home have left Roberta without the ability to walk.
She has been diagnosed with a Spinal Cord Injury at C4 and has had surgery to release the pressure on her spinal cord from C3-C7 and T-1 and has had a fusion of the vertebrae with metal rods and screws. Unless she can get the help she needs at home, Roberta faces life as a nursing home resident.
Several years ago, Roberta invited her aging parents to live with her, intending to be their caregiver. But she’s now faced with them taking care of her. Her elderly neighbors have counted on her as an advocate and sympathetic listener.
But you can make a difference in Roberta’s life.
Her medical bills are already over a million dollars – even with insurance. And there are many expenses insurance doesn’t cover.
We’re asking our caring community of friends, family and businesses to help cover the following expenses:
• Power Wheelchair – $1,650 after insurance.
• Home Modifications – $7,500-$10,000. Roberta can’t come home until her bathroom is refitted to allow her to shower and do daily functions.
• Wheelchair Accessible vehicle – $10,000-$15,000 for an older model (2005-2010) to get to doctor’s appointments and rehab sessions.
• FES bicycle – $15,000. Needed to work Roberta’s arm and leg muscles and reduce painful spasms.
Any donations above these costs will go for other medical costs insurance doesn’t cover.
You can help by making a donation and sharing this post. Anything you can do will be appreciated.
Roberta’s family has chosen to work with Help Hope Live. This non-profit assures fiscal accountability of funds raised… and tax deductibility for contributors. Your donation can only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Thank you for your support.
We wanted to take a minute to update you on how things have been going with Roberta, how much you’ve helped us, and where we could still use your support.
Wow. This year has been a whirlwind of emotions for us as we continued to figure out how to move from surviving to thriving at home.
We’ve had a few rough patches. We won’t soon forget having to call the paramedics when Roberta fell out of bed. But the paramedics were super helpful and quick! And when Harry passed, the support of everyone was truly appreciated.
We’ve had some really bright spots, too, like when Roberta took the bus for the first time and was able to get herself around without any of our help.
Through it all, we have been in constant love and support from our friends and family.
We want to really, really thank you for the love and donations over this past year.
Thanks to you, we were able to cover two of the four medical therapies to keep Roberta moving forward.
We could never have covered those sessions—and so much more—without your help.
The gift of being able to move through life is something Roberta treasures, but it is also something we need to financially support day after day to keep her with supplies, medications and daily living expenses.
Having Roberta home would never have been possible without you. Thank you from all of us.
