Four years ago, in December of 2017, Antonio was diagnosed with late-stage Kidney Disease. He felt terrible and went to see his primary care doctor, who immediately knew something was wrong. Antonio was sent directly to the hospital for a test, which resulted in him starting dialysis that same day. Since the diagnosis, he has had to do Hemodialysis, which is a procedure that does the work of his kidneys to remove impurities and fluid from the body. This is done four days a week, and each treatment lasts for 4 hours.

Despite his kidney condition, Antonio has always lived an active, productive, and positive life. He didn’t let his health challenges stop him from doing his job working full-time or being a high school assistant basketball coach. He was able to continue these things for a long time, but now his kidney failure is worsening, and day-to-day strains of dialysis drain his energy and make him feel terrible.

While Antonio has health insurance, many transplant expenses are surprisingly not covered, such as the monthly anti-rejection medications he needs to take for the rest of his life. The average cost that we will face immediately after Antonio’s surgery is upwards of $5000 per month just for the medicines alone.

Antonio needs a kidney transplant to prolong his life and get his body back to functioning as God designed it. We, as a family, need your help. We ask our family and friends to join us in fundraising for the nonprofit organization Help Hope Live. Their mission is to help with critical medical expenses for cell and organ transplant patients.
