Family and friends of Jovita McConnell are coming together to support her during this incredibly challenging time by raising funds through the nonprofit Help Hope Live.
Jovita is a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, and proud aunty and someone whose love, strength, and kindness have touched so many lives. Now, it’s our turn to surround her with that same love and support.
Jovita’s Journey – From Then to Now
This post is a bit longer, but it shares Jovita’s journey from the very beginning to today.
We’re sharing it because her story matters… and because we’re inviting you to be part of something bigger.
It was April 28th. An artery ruptured in Jovita’s brain, and it took almost a month for both of her eyes to open. She was in an unconscious coma for about a month, followed by a vegetative state for at least two more months after that. Those early days were filled with uncertainty, fear, and waiting for even the smallest sign of her coming back to us.
At one point, the doctors told us she would most likely remain in a “vegetative state” permanently and require lifelong care in a nursing home. We were even asked to consider a DNR. Shane remembers being asked, “Would she want this life?” His response was that I could never bet against my wife. And if they truly knew her, they wouldn’t either.
From there, her journey has been filled with small but powerful moments… breathing on her own, squeezing a hand, sitting up, and slowly becoming more aware of the world around her. Each step forward reminded us she was still there, still fighting.
Through weeks in ICU care at Harborview Hospital, followed by rehabilitation here in Seattle, Jovita continued her journey to a specialized rehab center in Denver, where she has shown incredible strength every step of the way.
We are deeply grateful to all of the therapists, nurses, doctors, and staff at Craig Hospital. The work they do is nothing short of extraordinary. Their patience, compassion, and dedication do not just support recovery, they restore hope. They celebrate every small victory with her, encourage her on the hardest days, and treat her with a level of care that touches the heart in ways we cannot fully put into words.
A special acknowledgment goes to Shane, whose constant love, strength, and dedication to Jovita has been unwavering. From helping with her daily care, including meals and personal needs, to being there through every difficult and tender moment, he has shown up for her in every possible way. His steady support has been a vital part of her healing and comfort throughout this journey.
And to her children, Presley, Toby, and Tatum, thank you for your strength, patience, and love. You have all carried so much and yet continued to show up for your mom with grace and resilience. Your presence in her life means more than words can express.
There have been hard days, but also beautiful ones, moments with her kids, glimpses of her sass, small victories like eating, standing, and even saying the word “home.”
Today, Jovita is home, continuing her journey surrounded by the love and support of her family. She is still fighting, still pushing forward, and still showing us, what strength truly looks like.
She has also recently begun her Gamma Knife treatments. Her first procedure went well, and she will continue with ongoing monitoring through MRIs and follow-up care over the next several years. It is a long road ahead, but one she continues to face with courage and strength.
That is who she is.
Always moving forward.
Always caring for others.
Always strong. Always beautiful.
Contributions will help cover uninsured medical expenses related to her catastrophic illness. Jovita’s dedicated team chose Help Hope Live because donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward her medical and related needs, ensuring every gift makes a real, tangible difference.
