Maureen George has always been someone who puts family first. A devoted mother and loved one to many, Maureen has spent years facing the daily challenges of living with multiple sclerosis (MS), a progressive neurological disease that has left her with significant physical disabilities. Today, Maureen is completely dependent on others for her daily care, relying on the dedication and love of family members and caregivers to help her live safely at home.
One of Maureen’s primary caregivers has been her daughter, Katie, whose support has been essential in helping her mother manage the demands of severe disability. Recently, however, their family was faced with an unexpected and frightening crisis. Katie became critically ill and was hospitalized, and she remains in the ICU. While her family is hopeful that she will make a full recovery, Katie will require inpatient care and rehabilitation for several weeks, and it is uncertain when she will be able to return home and resume caring for her mother.
This sudden change has created an urgent challenge for Maureen. Because she requires full assistance with daily activities, the loss of Katie’s help means that additional home nursing care is now necessary to ensure that Maureen can remain safe and cared for while Katie focuses on healing. The situation has also made it difficult for Maureen to visit her daughter in the hospital, as she currently depends on public transportation services with limited availability.
Adding to these challenges, Maureen no longer has access to a reliable wheelchair-accessible vehicle. Her previous van with a lift, which allowed her to attend medical appointments and stay connected with family, has broken down and is no longer usable. Without accessible transportation, everyday life has become even more difficult and isolating.
Maureen’s family is starting this fundraiser through Help Hope Live, a nonprofit organization that helps families raise funds for medical and disability-related expenses. Donations made through Help Hope Live are tax-deductible and will go toward supporting Maureen’s immediate and long-term needs.
Funds raised will help cover the cost of home nursing care while Katie recovers, ensuring that Maureen continues to receive the assistance she depends on every day. Donations will also help the family work toward obtaining a reliable wheelchair-accessible van so Maureen can safely travel to medical appointments, visit loved ones, and remain part of the community.
This is a difficult time for their family, but they remain hopeful. With the support of friends, family, and the community, Maureen can continue to receive the care she needs, and Katie can focus on recovery without the constant worry about her mother’s safety.
Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. Your support, prayers, and encouragement are deeply appreciated.
