Michael Terrio is a 60 year old man who is very ill. In December of 2008, he was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The only cure for this disease is a double lung transplant. At the time of Michael’s diagnosis, he was told that he had 3 years to live if he did not receive a lung transplant. That was almost six years ago. It has been a very long road of ups and downs, severe illnesses, recoveries and relapses, trips to and from Pittsburgh for testing and procedures. The Terrio Family is very, very excited to announce that we have FINALLY received word that Michael will be placed on the lung transplant list at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania.
Most of you are aware that this news is a LONG time coming and we are so grateful to the many doctors, nurses and social workers who continue to help us navigate this endeavor. Now we are planning for the next challenge; transplants are life-saving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Michael is facing very high expenses including relocating for six months to be closer to the medical center for pre and post-transplant care, post-transplant medications of up to $1,200 a month and co-pays, lab fees and more.
To help with the financial burden of Michael’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPElive in the Northeast Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution today.
Our family wishes to express our sincere and heartfelt appreciation to our very special community of Somerville which has provided us with financial, emotional and physical support over the past year. We are immensely lucky to belong to a strong, generous and loyal community. We thank you for all of your words of encouragement and countless offers to assist our family. We love each and every one of you.

Update:
Dad is relocating to Pittsburgh on 9/20/14. My cousin Kate and her 18 month old son Colton will accompany him as both his caretakers and emotional support beacons. As you all know, Dad is a huge fan of babies so and he is both delighted and appreciative that his niece and great nephew will be joining him on this leg of his journey. It is our hope that his wait for new lungs will not be long. The reality of it is that he is looking at a minimum of a 3 month stay in Pittsburgh. As you can imagine this part of his journey comes with many expenses. We are extremely appreciative to those of you who have assisted us financially, emotionally and physically throughout this endeavor. If you are in a position to assist us once again, please consider doing so. If you are not, please consider sharing this page. The more shares we get, the more apt we are to get closer to our goal.
With love and unending appreciation,
The Terrio Family
Michael,
I don't know you but my son Rob is close friends with April and he tells me you are a really good guy and certainly very deserving of all the help you can get in your efforts toward a transplant and better health. I am sending along a check in your honor to the HelpHOPELive fund. I hope nothing but the best for you and your family during this tough but hopeful and exciting time you are all going through. With best wishes and the knowledge that hope does indeed live,
Kathy Wood
Michael, you know you are in my daily prayers and in my heart, always. You've been on this long hard road for a long time now and you worked hard to get to this point of being ready for your transplants. I will continue to help in any way I can. If I could, I'd be there. I love you dearly and am so proud of you!!

Michael, when I think of my "cousins," you are right there among all my happy memories of my teen and young adult years. You and Patti were also there when Tommy and I needed people desperately, and both of you will always hold a special place in our hearts because of that. <3 Best of luck and lots of prayers, positive energy, strength, hope and hugs coming your way from us. Love always, Tommy and carol
I will be mailing a check to you this week. xxxooo
