My husband, Nathan Sparrow, is just 54-years-old and in need of a lifesaving kidney transplant. About 2 ½ years ago, Nathan had spent three days in the hospital as a result of congestive heart failure. While at the hospital he was given different types of medications to make him well but two days after they released him, he became very ill and almost died. His potassium level had spiked from all the medications prescribed causing his kidneys to shut down. Nathan was placed on emergency dialysis to stabilize him.
Nathan and I have three children and three grandchildren. He has been an experienced welder for over 30 years and his favorite pastime is taking on a restoration project returning rusted and useless objects back to their original state. He dreams of one day making this into his own business where he can work for himself while pursuing his passion.
In many ways he is like one of his projects- he needs to take the broken pieces of his health and restore himself to good health. Since 2011 when three-times-a-week dialysis started, unexpected medical bills have mounted well over $75,000 and they continue to grow while he awaits his kidney transplant. This is a challenge we cannot face alone. The cost of the immunosuppressant medications alone is astronomical and he will need to take these for the rest of his life.
To help with the financial burden of Nathan’s uninsured medical expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider an end-of-year tax deductible donation.

Your support is critical to the overall success of Nathan’s struggle. Please know that your contribution counts. We thank you in advance for your kind consideration.
Gratefully,
Liz Sparrow (Nathan’s wife)
