Blake Bryant was left paralyzed after a life-changing event on October 12, 2014. He suffered a spinal cord injury after a tragic motorcycle wreck. Now he has no use of his legs and is bound to a wheel chair. Blake was hospitalized at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) after being flown from the site of his crash. When released from the ICU, he left with a strong will intact as he had surpassed the expectations of the rehabilitation laid out in front of him. There continue to be ongoing outpatient therapy with a strong focus on stimulating his muscles to one day stand and maybe walk again. No price can be put on the progress Blake is making and we are beyond grateful. However, as you can imagine, the medical bills for his care are enormous and continue to accrue. Blake needs your help!
Blake graduated from Oxford High School and, to this day, calls Oxford home. He went into the military while still attending his last year of school and shortly after was deployed with his unit. Following his tour, Blake returned home focused on getting settled with a new job. It was at his job that he met his fiancé, Shonda Glenn. They are the proud parents of a three-year-old boy, the light of their lives. Shonda takes care of their little boy, the home and now Blake who still needs a wheelchair to get around. There are many other medical problems that come with his paralysis. Despite all they have struggled through, they both have faith in Blake’s recovery.
Because of his strong will, love for his family, and confidence in his friends and the community he has always called home, Blake is confident he will one day be in a better position to care for his family. Thankfully they have health insurance, but not all of Blake’s medical expenses are covered and must pay a significant amount out-of-pocket. Costs for vehicle modifications, insurance premiums, and an intensive therapy program to strengthen his body and regain mobility are not covered.
To help with the financial burden of Blake’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. Alright so I have been able to move the toes and my ankle on my right leg for a few months now. I'm proud to say today i was able to move my toes on my left leg for the first time. It was a very strenuous effort but they moved. Excited that improvement can be made through hard work.
