Gary White’s life was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver in the year 2000. Gary, who has been sober for almost thirty years, found out that his liver damage had been accelerated by having Hepatitis C. A liver transplant was his only option for a long, healthy life. Gary was preparing for a living donor transplant from Thomas Blankenship, a member of the New Life congregation. Miraculously, the donation from Thomas wasn’t needed. Gary received a transplant on February 18th and improving daily. Gary is on his way back to health but still needs our help with transplant related expenses including testing expenses Thomas incurred as part of the process for being evaluated as a live donor. This transplant and second chance is a true gift from God.
Gary surrendered his life to Jesus Christ in 2014. He has been attending New Life Community Church in Louisa, Virginia, with his wife Donna. Both Gary and Donna are members of 12 step programs, and work with others that have had the same struggles they have faced. Gary and Donna have held fast to the promise found in Deuteronomy 31:6: Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. This promise is also repeated in Hebrews 13:5.
Gary and Donna will be facing extremely high expenses associated with this transplant. There will be uninsured care-giver expenses as well as post -transplant medications that he will have to take for the rest of his life, co-pays/deductibles, lab fees, and other uninsured expenses.
To help with the financial burden of Gary’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Liver Transplant Fund Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution.
Please know that whatever you are able to do is greatly appreciated. On behalf of Gary and his family, we thank you for your prayers, support, and generosity.
May God Bless and Keep You,
Donna White, [email protected]

Please re-share this on your Time Line, we are still looking for a corporate sponsor to do a local fund raiser . Gary is 30 days post-op. We are still doing IV antibiotics at home, and he is getting better every day. Thank you for all the thought, prayers and contributions. God Bless
Donna .
Great day back home, we are doing IV treatments here at the house, he is getting stronger and stronger everyday--Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers
Well it's been awhile since I updated our fund rising, but Gary has been in and out of the hospital with an infection. Good news the organs are doing GREAT. We are in good spirits and know that everything is in God's hands, Please add this and share on your Time Line, and thank you to those that have already made a contribution. God Bless, Donna and Gary White
ps Please note that we did not use our living donor a liver became available just days before Thomas was to meet with the surgeons.
We have great news to share - Gary got a new liver last week and is doing well! He didn't need the live donation from Thomas, but we will always be grateful to Thomas for his willingness to go through the process to be tested as a live donor and make the commitment to Gary to be a donor. We are still fundraising for the out-of-pocket medical expenses including the costly anti-rejection medications that Gary will have to take for the rest of his life, as well as the costs Thomas incurred for testing to be a live donor. Thank you for your prayers, support, and generosity.
