Lillian Straksys is 61 years old and very ill. She has end-stage renal disease and has been on dialysis for over three years. Her only option for a long and healthy life is a kidney transplant. Lillian is a kind person who needs the help of family and friends because transplants, while life-saving are financially draining.
Lillian grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Her parent and two sisters immigrated from Lithuania after World War II. She attended Rosary High School, and completed a Bachelor of Science at Central Michigan University. She moved to Philadelphia and received her degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania. Lillian worked full time as a physical therapist until June 2014. With a transplant, she plans on returning to work as a physical therapist. Lillian lives with her daughter, Elena and Elena’s husband, Onesimus. Her family is committed to do whatever is necessary to assist with a kidney transplant to ensure a great outcome.
Even with insurance, Lillian is facing high out-of-pocket expenses. The costs of post-transplant medications can be as much as $1,200 a month with co-pays and lab fees and Lillian will have to take the anti-rejection medications for the rest of her life.
To help with the financial burden of Lillian’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution.
Thank you in advance for your kind support. Every donation helps.

I started physical therapy today! I see surgeon tomorrow.
I have attended dialysis since January 19, 2012. I am the mother of two daughters. We have 4 dogs and 3 cats that roam our home.
I wish to be around for my grandchildren. I would help others that find themselves in this situation. I have met the medical criteria; To receive transplant I must have financial resources to pay for medication. Any help for me to reach this goal is greatly appreciated.
