Louis Auriemma, aka “Louie” to most, is a 45-year-old devoted father to Angelo who is just 2 ½ years old. He has been chronically sick for a few years now, never able to pin down what was causing his constant fatigue, bleeding disorders, weight gain and weight loss but his family doctor just wouldn’t give up. He knew Louie just “wasn’t himself”. Ultimately, his doctor was able to diagnose him: stage-3 cirrhosis. Louie was told he needs a lifesaving liver transplant to survive.
In late October 2014, shortly after the official diagnosis, Louie began to bleed internally as a complication of his illness, coming within hours of his death. Doctors saved his life but knew Louie needed a transplant now.
Cousin Gina to the Rescue! She is an amazing woman with a heart of gold, though that doesn’t even begin to describe her and her Gift of Life to Louie. Gina has been approved to be his living donor! With her personal strength, unconditional love and spiritual guidance, Gina has single-handedly reminded us that there is always a shining light at the end of any darkness guided by hope and faith.
Gina and Louie will have a long road to recovery after surgery. Though transplantation is lifesaving it is financially draining. Immediately, Louie started to worry about the extraordinary costs of doctor visits, testing, co-pays and the very costly medications he must take now and the post-transplant anti-rejection medications he will need to take for the rest of his life. This is not going to be an easy road, emotionally or financially, for Louie and his new family. It is a challenge he cannot meet alone. He needs your help!
To help with the financial burden of Louie’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. I thank you for your time and kind thoughts. As I care for my husband each day, your support will give me the strength I need and Louie will be stronger knowing your kindness and that Angelo will have his Daddy.
With deep gratitude, I thank you,
Jennifer Auriemma, Louie’s Wife

Very close friends said it so beautifully: “Best friends are people who make your problems their problems, just so you don’t have to go through them alone”. Cousin Gina and all our family and friends have always made us feel loved and as if we shall overcome this very difficult obstacle in our lives.

Six month check up went very well, all blood work is good, no more signs of the bile leak. Some issues with the steroid side effects but nothing we can't handle. Still trying to get the prograf at the right levels, that is definitely a work in progress. Cousin Gina is doing very well, back to her amazing self and becoming the topic of conversation for medical discussions regarding living donor options. Stay tuned for the next update.

Beth S. ...(via Dr Suess) "I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind; Some come from ahead and some come from behind.; But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see.; Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me! "
7/22/2015 : Louie is Tired, So Very Tired, he tries so very hard to keep up with ANGELO, the 2 1/2 yo love of his life, but it wipes him out, He rests often and and searches for comfort in what he enjoys most MUSIC (next to Angelo & I of course LOL) whether he be stumming his guitar or listening to his old'school Faves it brigns him joy and comforts his mind. - Jenn
Love From Aunt Meems & Aunt Marie..(our very own cheerleaders) .."Louis is a kind and good-hearted person who enjoys spending time with his family and of course, always music. We all love him very much."
From Cousin Melissa..."My Cousin Louis and I spent entire summers of our childhood together on Long Beach Island. There are six years between us and he was like an older brother to me growing up. He taught me how to ride a bike; cleared the seaweed away from where I was in the Bay so that I did not have to walk through it; he let me watch wrestling with him; always shared his toys with me and watched out for me with crossing the streets on the way to the beach. I was with him when he got his first car and driver's license. We rocked out to heavy metal together. We spent many Christmas Eves together and he even spilled the beans and told me that Santa Claus was not real. He was with me when I learned my Mother had died. He is an amazing human being. A loving Husband, Father, Brother, Friend and Cousin. His life matters and this transplant will give him the second chance he needs and deserves."
