This fundraiser was created on behalf of Abby Abele. If you know Abby, you know how selfless and caring she is. She has worked tirelessly in social services, housing, shelter, advocacy, and community engagement. She’s dropped everything to help friends navigate difficult systems. She’s creating incredible networks to help her neighbors get basic needs. She’s someone who offers to sit at the office for 6 hours so you don’t have to drive to St. Paul to pick her up. Abby is always willing to help others and finds it so hard to ask for help when she needs it. But we are her support system, and Abby deserves all the generosity that she has shown others. 

In the past few years, Abby has needed to make significant adjustments, receiving diagnoses that affect her way of life, including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis (HYPO-PP). At that time, she mostly worked from home, had very little energy, and experienced flares and unexpected symptoms often, making it difficult to work, make plans, or enjoy time with friends and family. Even minor activity, like taking stairs or walking down the street, would result in debilitating migraines, fainting, vertigo, pain, and other medical episodes. Not only was this physically frustrating, but it made it so Abby didn’t feel like herself, and experienced strain on her mental health.

In 2025, she started using a manual wheelchair, and it has significantly improved her daily life. She has more energy, less symptoms, and more stability in her life. She’s able to enjoy her life more fully again and do what she loves the most: spending time with loved ones, trying new things, and being a change-maker in her community. 

As amazing as this is, a manual wheelchair still comes with challenges. It can be exhausting to use and even after 20 minutes, can result in injuries, which doesn’t allow for much independence. That’s why we are fundraising to get Abby a motor designed to attach to her wheelchair. With a motorized chair, Abby can be out and about all day, be more independent, and take better care of herself.

The goal of this campaign is $3,697.75 which is the portion of the motorized component that isn’t covered by insurance,+ the 5.65 % fee that Help Hope Live charges to use their platform. All donations sent through this fundraiser are tax-deductible and go directly to the medical supply company that Help Hope Live will order from on Abby’s behalf.
