The Heart of Our Story

Hi, my name is Candis Thomas. I am a special education paraprofessional and a single mother to my 16 year old son, Amare Joel.

Amare Joel lives with Angelman Syndrome, which affects his balance and movement. We recently made the big move from Little Rock, Arkansas, to Houston, Texas, so he could receive the best medical care possible. Right now, it is just the two of us here—we have no other family in Texas to lean on.

The Physical Struggle

Our current sedan, a Cadillac CTS, has become a safety risk for both of us. Because Amare Joel is growing, I have to physically lift him and his manual wheelchair in and out of the car multiple times every day. This constant strain is causing me severe, chronic back problems. I have reached a point where I am terrified that if I get injured, I will no longer be able to care for him independently at home.

Our Goal: A Wheelchair Accessible SUV

We aren’t just looking for a car; we are looking for a wheelchair accessible SUV with a ramp. This would allow me to roll his chair directly into the vehicle safely. This SUV is a necessity to keep my son at home with me and out of a medical facility.

My brand, Zero None, stands for the idea that we are all unique. Amare Joel is truly one of a kind, and he deserves to move through this world with dignity. Every dollar raised goes directly toward the purchase and conversion of an accessible SUV.
