I was originally diagnosed with Sarcoidosis back in 2008. It was managed for years with medication. In 2022, I noticed I was struggling with shortness of breath and persistent cough. After a CT scan revealed the beginnings of Pulmonary Fibrosis (hardening of the lungs) my doctor put me on a more aggressive medication regimen. By 2025 it became clear the pharmaceuticals were not stopping the progression of my disease. I ended up at UW Health Transplant Center at the end of 2025 and began evaluation for a double lung transplant. Over the course of the eval. it was discovered I have a rare genetic mutation called short telomere syndrome. This along with the fact that two other family members had similar lung disease made the source of the problem clear. As of June 2026 I am officially on the weight list for transplant. I am a retired music teacher and guitar player. Music has always been a part of my life. I have played in a few local original bands in Milwaukee and hope to get back into this after recovery. This has been a long tough journey and there will be more challenges to come. Although my lung condition severely limits my mobility and physical activities; I feel strong and ready for transplant.
