Family and friends of Chris Ackart are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a transplant. Chris has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Life can change in an instant

Not long ago, Chris and his wife, Jamie, opened their hearts and home by adopting their two grandchildren, ages 8 and 10, giving them the love, stability, and family every child deserves.

Shortly after, their world was turned upside down.

Chris was diagnosed with severe kidney and liver disease after already battling diabetes, high blood pressure, and macular degeneration. Through it all, he has continued to fight, providing for his family and doing everything he could to keep life as normal as possible.

Today, Chris’s kidneys are functioning at just 6%.

His doctors have told him he will need to begin dialysis soon. Once dialysis starts, he will have to leave his job because treatments will require him to be at the hospital at least three times each week. As the primary provider for his family, this will create an enormous financial burden on top of an already overwhelming medical journey.

Chris’s best chance at more time with his family is a kidney and liver transplant.

Before he can even be placed on the transplant list, the family must raise $4,000. Their overall goal is $12,000 to help cover the many expenses that come with the transplant process, travel, lodging, and the financial strain of being unable to work.
