Cynthia A Tackitt
Houston, TX
We are reaching out on behalf of our wonderful friend, Cindy. At 57 years old, Cindy is someone who deeply loves life’s quiet joys. When she isn’t working, she loves to paint, settle in with a great book, and travel to see new places. She is also a fiercely loyal friend who thrives on the simple happiness of going to the movies with her circle of friends. For three years, she poured that same vibrant energy into a physically demanding, 50-hour-a-week retail management role, always standing on her feet and pushing through the day.
Behind her bright spirit, however, Cindy has been fighting a severe, invisible battle against Alport syndrome, which has progressed into End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The profound fatigue and anemia from her failing kidneys finally forced her to step away from work to focus entirely on survival. She is currently multi-listed for a preemptive kidney transplant at both Houston Methodist and Baylor Scott & White. Because she does not have a living donor, she is waiting on a deceased organ donor. A preemptive transplant—getting a kidney before ever starting dialysis—is her best path to getting back to her paints, her books, and the friends who miss her company.
The Financial Challenge
While a transplant offers a beautiful second chance, the financial road ahead is steep. Transitioning to long-term leave means Cindy must manage skyrocketing health insurance premiums, costly COBRA extensions, and heavy out-of-pocket medical bills on a fixed income.
Transplant expenses are immense and lifelong. Funds raised will directly help cover:
Insurance Premiums & COBRA: Vital to keeping her active on both transplant waitlists.
Lifelong Medications: Costly post-transplant anti-rejection drugs required every single month.
Travel & Lodging: Crucial relocation expenses and temporary housing during surgeries and post-op care between Houston and Temple.
Uncovered Medical Gaps: Deductibles, co-pays, and specialized clinic fees.
