My name is Derrick Brown, I live in El Paso, TX., and I am currently in need of a kidney transplant. After consulting with my medical team at Baylor Scott & White, I was referred to Help Hope Live to assist with the financial challenges that often accompany the transplant journey.

I am seeking to raise $25,000 to help cover expenses such as travel, lodging, meals, and other transplant-related costs. Following the transplant, I will need to make frequent trips to Dallas for ongoing medical appointments and monitoring to ensure that the new kidney is functioning properly and that my recovery is progressing well.

My wife, Nancy, is a dedicated high school science teacher who has been a constant source of support and encouragement throughout this journey. Together, we have been blessed with five adult children and four wonderful grandchildren.

Recently, I began the process of searching for a living kidney donor. A living donor transplant often provides better long-term outcomes and greater longevity than receiving a kidney from the deceased donor waiting list. Receiving a transplant would significantly improve my quality of life, providing greater freedom, especially when it comes to travel, family activities, and pursuing personal goals.

One of my passions is writing, and I look forward to having the strength and energy to continue working on my book. Currently, dialysis takes a tremendous toll on my body. Each treatment leaves me exhausted, and I typically need a full day to recover. As a result, I lose several days each week that could otherwise be spent with family, serving others, and pursuing meaningful projects.

One of my long-term dreams, with the help of my wife, is to establish a Dream Center dedicated to serving those in need, including the homeless and underserved in our community. This vision will require time, energy, and preparation—resources that are currently limited by the physical demands of dialysis.

I am deeply grateful for the support, prayers, and generosity of those who choose to walk alongside me during this journey. I look forward to the day when I no longer need dialysis and can fully embrace the opportunities that a successful kidney transplant will provide—not only for myself and my family, but also for the people I hope to serve in the years ahead.
