Harlow Barnett

Harlow is an 18 year old student at their local community college. They have had mobility issues since they were young. When COVID first hit and Harlow got COVID for the first time, everything got worse. Recently they have started to need a power chair that will be hard to transport.

Harlow is an artist and aspires to be a disability advocate. They try to help others in their communities by helping them get the resources they need. Harlow loves to talk to their friends and calls them regularly for hours at a time. Right now a lot of their time is spent doing online college courses and playing games with their friends.

Ever since things started getting worse Harlow hasn’t been able to push a manual wheelchair, make themself food, get out of the house without help, and many more things. They are prone to pressure sores, as a result of their Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and ME, which are painful for them. Harlow struggles to stay upright when in the car and needs more postural support than the family’s car can currently provide.

Harlow is currently fundraising for a wheelchair van with a manual ramp and a QLK restraint system for their wheelchair. Since insurance doesn’t help with any funding for wheelchair vans, despite them being a necessity. They need to raise at least $70,000 to be able to afford a new van that suits their needs.

Harlow hopes that by getting a wheelchair van they can more reliably go to college, make friends in person, and start volunteering within their community.
