Help Hope Live for Adeline Casson

On January 17, 2020, Adeline Beatrice came into the world. It wasn’t the birth we expected, and none of us were prepared for how this little girl would change our lives forever.

Addie was born with a rare and severe form of Osteo-Imperfecta, also known as O.I. This genetic disorder means that the child is born with soft bones that break very easily and frequently. There is no cure for this currently, and because it is so rare, the research is limited. The months after her birth were a learning experience for all of us, but especially her parents, Steven and Kate–knowing that any small or sudden movement, even something as small as a sneeze, could break one or several of her bones. For awhile, only her parents were able to pick her up, as we were all navigating the fragility of her bones. We would watch over her wondering if she would ever be able to hold her head up, to paint, or enjoy playing with her two older sisters.

She is now three years old, and over those years, her medical team is slowly finding what her best treatment plan is. She now has a port in her chest where she gets medicine administered regularly, and twice a year the family travels over 9 hours from Albuquerque to Dallas to Scottish Rite Hospital to seek the necessary treatment.

It is a constant struggle as she has and will continue to break bones regularly. Through this adversity, she continues to show us all courage and determination. By receiving the medicine, she is now able to scoot around the house, paint, and if there is a task to accomplish, she will get it done no matter how long it takes.

Steven and Kate have provided a loving and safe environment, and her sisters absolutely adore her. As she gets older, there are new challenges that Addie and her family will face. Ongoing treatment, a wheelchair, and travel expenses are just a few of the ongoing costs they will face as Addie continues to grow up. Because Addie needs 24/7 care, Kate is a full-time mom and caregiver to the three girls, thus putting a harder strain on them financially.

Donations to Help Hope Live can help ease the financial burden Addie and her family will face and give Addie the opportunity to experience life to the fullest. Any amount donated will help the family immensely and we are grateful for your support.
