Support Adriane’s Recovery

Family and friends of Carson and Adriane Landreth are raising funds for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to cover uninsured medical expenses associated with Adriane’s recent health complications.

Adriane carries the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and is currently on immunosuppressive medication, putting her at a high risk of infection. MS is a chronic inflammatory and neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous which causes unpredictable symptoms that can be temporary or long lasting; there is no cure for Multiple Sclerosis. Vision loss, nerve pain, weakness, numbness, bowel and bladder problems, cognitive and behavioral dysfunctions, an ongoing battle to sleep, a thousand revisions to life plans, and more money than you’d ever believe—MS has significantly interfered with Adriane’s ability to function at home and work for over 20 years.

In January 2022, Adriane became ill with COVID-19. After the majority of symptoms subsided and she no longer tested positive for the illness, Adriane continued to experience lingering fatigue and cognitive impairment. Despite taking all precautions, Adriane contracted COVID-19 once more in June. After recovering a second time, the exhaustion continued to wreak havoc on her everyday functioning.

In July, her primary care physician at UC Davis Medical Center diagnosed Adriane with Long COVID and referred her to the Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome (PACS) Clinic within the Infectious Disease Clinic at Stanford Medicine.

Adriane’s appointment is scheduled for January 2024. Yes, you read that correctly: 2024.

Meanwhile, Carson began researching alternative treatments for Long COVID in an effort to make his wife feel better. He discovered multiple publications highlighting the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) as a promising intervention for Long COVID. HBOT is when an individual enters a special chamber to breathe in pure oxygen in air pressure levels 1.5 to 3 times higher than average. The goal is to fill the blood with enough oxygen to repair tissues and restore normal body function.

In September, Adriane was able to connect with a naturopathic medical office in Paso Robles that was offering hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Adriane underwent daily 90-minute HBOT sessions for three weeks in an effort to replicate recent studies. Miraculously, Adriane saw improvements in her energy level and concentration after only a few sessions—two factors that had been impairing her everyday functioning and work productivity. Living with MS, the body has its own frustrating method and timeline for healing. HBOT helps block harmful bacteria, the toxins from some, and strengthens the body’s immune system. It also increases oxygen concentration in the tissues. This helps them resist infection.

As medical bills started piling up, Carson and Adriane began exploring the option of renting or purchasing an HBOT for their home. With a full time job, the daily HBOT sessions were becoming increasingly difficult to schedule. Sick time and vacation hours began to deplete to keep up with Adriane’s rehabilitation. She is now on intermittent unpaid medical leave to continue this treatment.

Out-of-pocket expenses required for this treatment have also begun to weigh heavily on the couple. In order to purchase the chamber and accompanying equipment, it will cost close to $29,000. None of these expenses are covered by insurance. Exhausting all their resources to purchase a chamber, Carson and Adriane have been forced to seek alternative methods to finance this huge medical expense.

Carson and Adriane devote their lives to helping their family, friends, and community. Right now, they require our assistance.
