AJ Hunt

August 27th, our son, Andrew James (AJ) Hunt suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury following a devastating car accident in Nevada as he was returning back to school at Brigham Young University in Utah. AJ is now paralyzed from his chest down with limited movement in his arms.

He is working hard at rehabilitation at the University of Utah Rehabilitation Center in Salt Lake City and will be returning home within the next two months.

AJ is a wonderful brother to Jaron, Bradley and Caleb. He has always been an excellent student, taking college classes while still in high school, and an excellent musician, playing several piano concerts and competitions throughout the state of Washington. He spent 2012 and 2013 serving a church mission in Nicaragua.

In spite of the many struggles he faces, AJ and his family remain hopeful he will be able to return to a productive life in the community through the support of family and friends. After leaving the in-patient rehabilitation center, AJ will begin an intensive outpatient therapy program that will strengthen his body and hopefully help him regain some additional function in his arms and hands.

Even with insurance, many of our expenses will not be covered and must be paid out of pocket. We are now preparing to make home modifications so that AJ will be able to return home as soon as possible. Some other expenses are the purchase of a specially modified vehicle, adaptive equipment, additional rehabilitative therapy and many others. This puts our family up against a challenge that we cannot meet alone and need your help.

A fundraising campaign in AJ’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in a special fund and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
