I’d like to share my story with you. On the evening of December 29, 2010, I had a diving accident that completely changed my life. I broke my neck… It has been 12 years since that day, and I often ask myself, If that day was the end or the beginning of something larger. My life has been full of many challenges and many blessings. In overcoming numerous obstacles, I acknowledge the countless people willing to help me physically by pushing my wheelchair… and who have lifted me emotionally and spiritually as well.

After being paralyzed from the neck down, I thought driving was an unattainable goal. It took me three years of practice with therapists to learn to drive and find the right equipment for my special needs. I got my driver’s license without restriction for the state of Texas, last January. It was a day I’ll never forget. Since the beginning of my injury, I’ve shared my story as a motivational speaker and have tried to convey that everything is possible for people that believe in themselves and never give up.

I am currently a CPA for the state of Texas and Utah, having graduated from Ensign College, BYU-Idaho, and the University of Utah, receiving honors. I have completed a master’s degree in accounting and tax showing that hard work and “dreaming big” does produce a positive outcome.

The next big ” leap” is to acquire a fully converted van. This is a lofty goal… conversion of a van, to meet my needs, is extremely expensive ( $95,000). Whatever you feel you can donate, a large amount or small helps me reach my goal. The converted van offers me safety, the ability to meet my personal needs, and a better quality of life. I believe my life as a special need person allows me to be an example… encouraging others to forge ahead and set goals beyond their wildest imagination. I truly want to be a blessing to others.
