Alejandro Aranda

Alejandro is a father to three daughters; he is loved by his family, friends, and community. Many of the people that know and cherish him have worked with him at Crossroads Dairy, where he worked for 19 years, and he has been a local in Delta since 2000.

Alejandro Aranda discovered he had Cirrhosis, a type of liver failure, in 2019 after suffering from fatty liver disease and diabetes for years. Cirrhosis has continued to aggressively attack his liver and has reduced the quality of his life dramatically while causing him a lot of pain. This disease makes it difficult for him to do everything from walking up stairs to working on his cars.

Alejandro wants to be an active participant in his family’s lives. He can no longer work to help his family financially or enjoy precious moments with his daughters as he once did. Alejandro’s disease has turned an active man and father into an observer longing to do the things he used to. Despite his low liver function and difficulty moving, he continues to work hard to improve the lives of his animals and those around him. Alejandro tells jokes and loves to see light in people’s eyes. He is passionate about cooking, his animals, and working on his cars. Known for his patience, hard work, and compassion; Alejandro continues to strive to improve the lives of those he loves, despite his health condition.

After a year of almost weekly paracentesis procedures, his doctors told him that he was going to need a new liver because his condition was worsening. They ordered and reviewed many tests to be performed and labs to be drawn, and ultimately, the doctors determined a full liver transplant was necessary. Even with insurance, the cost of a transplant is immense. Everything from medical equipment and anti-rejection medication copayments to lodging and transportation costs will come out of pocket. After the transplant, Alejandro will need to remain close to the Murray hospital, where his transplant is being done, for at least three months to continue post-transplant appointments, procedures, and physical and occupational therapy.
