I was born with cerebral palsy spastic diplegia and diagnosed at the age of one. I have had 13 surgeries to date and many years physical and occupational therapy. Now in my thirties my mobility needs have changed and I use a wheelchair full-time.

My son Nolan was born in March of 2019, he is extremely active, curious and loves nature. One of the most challenging aspects of parenting a child with high energy, extreme curiosity and a zest for exploring the world around us, is keeping up with them.When you are a parent with a physical disability it is difficult to find funding for mobility aids you need.I want to be able to keep up with Nolan’s extremely active lifestyle to meet his sensory needs. When he goes on outdoor adventures whether it be hiking or the beach I am often forced to watch from a distance or stay home entirely because I do not have the proper mobility equipment that allows me to access these types of terrain and equipment like this is not covered by insurance. This would be an incredible tool to help me connect with my very active child.

In 2021, I founded Adaptive Parent Project (APP) a 501 (c)(3) non profit dedicated to empowering parents with disabilities. I was inspired to create this organization because I couldn’t find any resources or support for parents like myself and I wanted to create a community where parents with disabilities felt included and had a safe space. Donations to Help Hope Live can help ease the financial barrier to obtaining the right mobility equipment so that I can stay active with my son and allow me to live life to the fullest. Having access to this equipment helps me gain accessibility to the activities my family and I love to do and allows me to spread the awareness to others that it is possible to do what they love as well.

Family and friends of Alesha Thomas are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Illness.
