Alyssa Escobedo

Family and friends of Alyssa Escobedo are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund medical expenses associated with her liver transplant. Alyssa has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Alyssa was diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer at age 31 while pregnant with her daughter, Amelia. Over the last several years Alyssa has been undergoing various surgeries and chemotherapy in Seattle, WA while working full-time and raising her daughter with her husband, Andrew. While surgery was successful at removing her primary tumor in her colon and chemotherapy has controlled the spread of the cancer in her liver, Alyssa and her medical team have continued exploring all treatment options. This summer they received news that Alyssa was eligible for a living donor liver transplant through University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Her sister, Alex, who lives in Glenwood Springs, CO, selflessly elected to donate part of her liver to Alyssa. Both women will be traveling to Pittsburg, PA for surgery and their families will be relocating to Northeast Ohio during the recovery period which will last 2-3 months. They will both be required to travel back to Pittsburgh occasionally over the next two years for follow-up monitoring by the team in Pittsburgh. In addition, Alyssa will continue to have lifelong medical needs, such as costly prescriptions, to ensure a successful transplant.

This fundraiser will help support Alyssa and Alex’s medical, transportation, and lodging needs during the surgery, the recovery period, and for any follow up visits required, in addition to supporting Alyssa’s lifelong medical needs related to the transplant.
